I want to start a new project either a pair of Green Tree Pythons or a pair of Emerald Tree Boas. I have over 25 years experience keeping reptiles but sold my collection several years ago, with the exception of a pet Bearded Dragon.
Even though I have kept several varieties of snakes, including large Burmese Pythons and Boa Constrictors to smaller varieties of Kingsnakes Rat snakes and so on, I have only bred a trio of L. m. thayeri (Variable Kingsnakes) in the past. I successfully incubated, hatched and “Switched over” (From Lizard eater to pinky) several clutches of eggs, so I do have experience with problem feeder hatchlings.
My question are what are the major differences, other than Boas bear young live and Pythons lay eggs, between the two species? Specifically, difficulties in breeding, care and terrarium set up. Which is the more desirable of the two? Also any tips or pictures on housing set ups, since I am only plan on having a pair (Possibly more in the future)so I prefer my caging to be a show piece as well.
I am posting this question on both the Boa and Python forums for opinions.
Thanks,
Jim
