Just curious besides snakes, does anyone else keep other types of interesting critters? Spiders, scorpions, etc? Maybe I'm one of those if I'm out in the field and I can't find any snakes to take shots at, I'm always finding insects, spiders, and other bugs to photograph. I've always found them interesting. Besides snakes, I do keep a couple of species of scorpions.
First pic is a Flat Rock Scorpion (Hadogenes paucidens), and the remaining two pics are an emperor scorpion (Pandinus imperator) Both grow to be very large, and I believe emperors are the largest species of scorpion in the world. Yet they have one of the weakest venom in it's sting. I guess if your body & claws are built like a Maine Lobster, you don't have to worry about using your stinger much, LOL

Scorps that are heavily armored with large strong claws don't need the stronger venom - they have strength on their side. The thinner clawed and more fragile looking scorps, the more potent venom because those scorps rely on it for their defense.

Still too early in the year for me to be re-starting up my black widow collection...usually doesn't start until around late April early May. I also have a guy down in Texas who is gonna send me some recluses once the weather gets better.

Glad to see there are a few others that enjoy invertebrates besides me. PH, that's quite an extensive Tarantula collection you have. I enjoy visiting the spider and/or Tarantula forums and seeing all the different species. Thanks for posting.Steve

I've always liked those flat rock scorpions!

I've bred Vietnamese walking sticks for a number of years. Currently the only invert I keep is this spider which I found in my house last December. It ain't no tarantula, but it's fairly large. I reckon it's a hackledmesh weaver (Amaurobius ferox).
