Wild lindheimeri in Nueces County, TX...

Found this young adult Texas rat in a huge dead willow stump on Saturday. It had a death grip on the inside of its tree hole, and I would have had to destroy the stump to get it out for a better photo, so I let it be. This is about as far south as lindheimeri ranges, according to the field guides. -Toby

Doug, he felt like he was epoxied to the tree too! haha! When I first saw him, he had a couple coils out in the sun warming up, and when I tried to get him out, he backed into that deep crevice and wrapped himself around something inside. After that it was all gaping mouth! LOL
