Can I feed my baby ball a......?

Baller420 Mar 06, 2007 12:03 AM

I was wondering if I could feed my baby ball python "Marley" a live fuzzy mouse? Ive got a pic of him. The top one is Marley and the bottom one is Marley compared to my bigger ball Monty. I know the mouse can fit inside of him easily but his neck is so thin I dont know if the swallowing process of the mouse could hurt him or not. I would appreciate any help anyone could offer, Marley is my girlfriends snake (shes in the bottom pic) and she always makes me feed the frozen pinkies and it sucks, so Im tryin to switch to live fuzzies.

Your ball shouldnt have any pproblem eating a fuzzy mouse , I feed my balls live and I always have but be warned if you start feeding live prey instead of frozen it could be hard to get them eat frozen again.

They can eat something that is as wide as the widest part of them, even if they have a skinny neck. I have a small (200 grams) ball and she eats adult mice with no problem. Also, if you plan to feed frozen when he gets older I would stick with frozen now. I just got a couple older females that have only been feed live and have been having a hard time switching them.

thanks for the responses. I was always told they can eat anything that can fit in the thickest part of the snake too I was just worried that the little guys neck might be fragile since its so young. Ive never owned one at this size before but I thought it could eat it fine but my girlfriend wanted me to be "absolutly sure" before we bought it a live mouse. I hate feeding it frozen mice and I dont plan on doing that in the future, I always like watching them feed on live prey, but I always watch with intensive care so no injurys happen to the snake. I never just leave them in there alone. Feeding frozen mice has always been such a pain to get them to eat it. Im so relieved I can feed the new guy live mice now thanks for the quick replys!
