LYON Incubator....

MikeRusso Mar 06, 2007 09:40 AM

I like the Lyon Incubator b/c there is a ton of room inside and it's clear so you can see in from all around the unit...

BUT, for a unit with a price tag over $550 in my opinion there should be a digital thermostat built in... Not a same waffle with the thumb screw that is also used on the $45 hovabator!

It also has a fine adjustment screw.. But, it's so sensitive that you need to tape it in place (as seen in the pic) or it can be moved by mistake and throw off the temp

Does anyone have this unit and feel the same way?

I have a Nature's Spirit Inc that I just got. It was $460 with a Helix. I have not used it yet, but I will be soon. That all clear one looks really nice. How big is it? Derek

Yeah, I've seen that model up close. At the zoo I work for we have one of those in my building [Small Mammal and Reptile House] although we haven't used it yet [not breeding anything currently]. I can see with that circuit board thingie that maybe it's a slightly more high tech temperature control while still using the wafer thermostat. Actually the wafer might be a back up to the circuit board thingie. At any rate though, we've hatched out stuff for years using plain old Hovabators and of course plenty of hobbyists and even professionals have used them to great success. It's hard to argue with cheap and effective. If you don't trust your Hovabator wafer thermostat you can always do what a lot of guys do and hook your power supply up to a second thermostat set to shut the whole thing down if your wafer fails and causes the incubator to overheat. Me, I'll stick with my Hovabator.
