I can't decide if I should should get a pac man frog or a african bull frog. What would who ever reads this go with?
Thats up to you really. Well look at the pros and cons. Pros of Pacmans are theyre cute, they dont require much space, theyre generally low maintence, smaller size in comparison to an african bullfrog(jesus, even a cat is small compared to an african bullfrog), dont eat as much as a bully im sure, and im sure theres tons more im missing. cons to a Pacman? NONE! Only Con i could see abou the African Bullfrog would be its space requirements. I dont have a Bully myself, but i do have a 3 inch albino Pacman that i just go tyesterday. Eventhough theyre inactive, and he doesnt do much but move to make a new burrow everyday,he is the cutest thing ever, for real. My brother and sister are impatient because he doesnt move much, but thats its nature and i dont mind, i just wanna take car eof him and see a cute face in response
good luck with whatever you go with, theyre both awesome frogs.
Ok, I have a horned frog and I really like him. My brother has a Pixie frog which is an african bullfrog. Now I notice that horned frogs seem like pickier eaters, but whatever they like, the gobble up. African bullfrogs are very vicious and don't let the food stand a chance. It will keep on lunging and grabbing until he has the food. Horned frogs seem to wait until they got an almost definate strike. Horned frogs seem to be more docile, which is good when you are changing their cage. Horned frogs also look MUCH better in my opinion. I feel it all depends on what you want. An all out aggressive eater, or a different, but cool looking frog that still eats a lot, but is not so aggressive.
the afican bull frog sounds more for me, I for some reason always like the more aggresive animals, and the thought of an aggressive frog is just so strange. The pac man frog does however seem easier to keep, and less expensive, room is not a problem though, has I understand that adult pixie frog require much much more room then pac man frogs, thats fine. But I wont get it unless i think i can handle it, which i do. The setup i would have for a baby pixie would be a 20 gallon with bed-a-beast has a substrate and on one side would be has big a water bowl i can fit in a 20 gallon, with of course some thing in it like rocks to prevent drowning, then i would have a big fake plant hanging over the water, then on the other side would be anoter plant with some moss around it and that would be the side with the heat pad, but i dont like the reptile heating pads that you stick to the bottom, i like the human heating pads, i dont think they get has hot, then i would also have a light on this side, but what type of light do you use for pixies?
Ok so I can clarifiy this all up for you. An African Bullfrog(pixi) a harder to keep than a Horned Frog(pac-man. I suggest if you ae going to start with these kinds of frogs then you start out with a Horned Frog because then you can get used to how they behave. The first African Bullfrog I ever owned I scrweed up so much with, because there wasn't any information about it to tell me that they need it a bit warmer than Horned Frogs, and they they brumate like Horned Frogs do and some various other things that I didn't pick up on until I had Horned Frogs. And as for the aggressiveness my baby Horned Frogs are very aggressive and the adult isn't and my African Bullfrog isn't. And as for caging requirements a Horned Frog may be fine in a 10 gallon aquarium for it's whole life, but an African Bullfrog actually likes to move to a different spot every other day or so and I provide mine with a 40 gallon breeder tank and a 12" water dish for soaking. Any water dish you have in a 20 gallon aquarium will be too small for an adult African Bullfrog. As mine just sits comfortably in his. There are also some other factors at play here as well, such as dealers will often try to sell you Pyxicephalus edulis instead of Pyxicephalus adspersus when I confronted the dealers they said it's not their problem and they didn't care. And there is a minimun of Pyxicephalus adspersus coming into the United States, they are not being imported that much. I suggest if you really want an African Bullfrog you consider all of this and get a captive bred one from a trusted breeder. It is very unpleasent to be bitten by a large frog of this type so be careful in wanting an aggressive one. I hope you will take my suggestion and try a Horned Frog before you try an African Bullfrog.

Well when i said i would put it ina 20 gallon i mean i would put the baby in the 20 gallon, an adult woud go in a 55 gallon. The breeder i would get it from is MARKMLUCAS.com does any one know about this breeder?
I have not made my mind up yt but i tink mabey i should just go with the pac man frog, so can get used to sutch an animal, then when i am more experienced i will get the pixie.

I think you have made a good choice. Also, horned frogs can be aggressive, it is just that I notice that my brother's pixie was very aggressive. However, you are going to get to look at a frog more than seeing him eat, so it would be better to get a horned frog. Plus horned frogs are better for beginners and I love mine, and wouldn't want to trade mine. Plus if you like frogs and later want to get a pixie, you can go right ahead and have a horned frog and a pixie frog. Keep them in separate tanks and you should do research on pixies to see what they will look like, because it is true that most stores don't carry "real" pixie frogs. They say that they are, but they are not. Good luck with whatever frog you choose, and please keep us updated!
Start with a Horned Frog(pac-man) I have both species of frogs, and it's a lot easier to mess up with an African Bullfrog that those. The care and all is similar, but I would suggest honing your skills with a pac-man first.
If your goign to use as big as a water bowl as you can find may i suggest you try a litterbox. yeh,the kind you use for cats. thats what we use in work for our semi-aquatic larger species of frogs, turtles, and even lizards(water dragon). theyre cheap and they hold alot more water then those cheapo, yet expensive reptile water dishes they try to pass of on us.
I hear that African bullfrogs are hardier and feed better in captivity. I've own a pac-man and it was a wonderful pet...they eat a lot though so do African bullfrogs, even much more because these things get huge--i mean huge. So, if you don't want to spend a lot of money on the food for the African bull, then you're better off getting a pac-man.
