You produce them? you wouldn't by any chance happen to have pics of adult ones do you? They told me its colour and pattern wouldn't change much but I cant seem to find any adult pics. Also can i handle my snake directly after feeding him to put him back in his home? I feed him in a seperate aquarium and wasn't sure if there was absolutely no handling after feeding to avoid regurgitation etc. I'm new at this owning a snake thing and don't want to screw anything up or stress out my snake. thanks

CrimsonKing Mar 06, 2007 06:53 PM

By "handling" we usually mean for any extended time. It should be fine to quickly put him back in his enclosure where he has a hide to feel safe.
I produce mine from 2 het/albino normals, so I can't help you with the pics. it seems that I sell off all my albinos every year before I decide to keep one.
Anyway, as adults expect them to be from somewhat to very much lighter in overall color. Sort of a creamy ground color with darker saddles. There's GOT to be some decent pics from users here.

As long as your gentle you should be fine, they are tough animals. You would be fine just feeding him in his regular cage also it makes no difference in how aggressive they are. (unless you have him in a naturalistic cage and wish to avoid impactions which are rare if non-existant in well hydrated animals.)

I agree Thomas. About 10 years back I used to breed Starburst prarie kings and this looks like it.

Starbursts are a cross between a prarie and a Mole king. I sold my adults so I assume people are still breeding them and the babies.

So are you guys saying my snake isn't the kind I think it is? It's not really a big deal i still like it but I would like to know what I own... haha

No its not a big deal. A lot of people own pure morphs that are really crossed. They just don't want know it and that makes some people happier.

The 50/50 Mole x prarie "Starburst" was probably outbred to praries so yours may be a watered down version.

Well I would'nt worry too much about it, you can do the scale count on the shed skin and keep us informed and we'll (meaning people that know the exact scale counts etc) help you figure out what it is. Its a nice snake, there's also the chance that it could just be a really nice specimen of the albino prarie king. I thought it looked like a prarie to me.

Funny since I usually notice moles with even smaller looking heads.

agreed, for sure......those dorsal blotches scream nomiante/prairie king(concave front and back edges).....i don't have any true 'yellow-bellieds' so here's one of my mole snakes.

...keep the entire skin in good condition. Then count the scales across from one side to the other.
Let me know what # you get.

If I remember right the praire king has a dorsal scale row of 23-27 and the mole snake (mole king) has a dorsal scale row of 21-23. Not sure what it would be with a cross of the two?

I really like the looks of the albino prairies, and you have a stunner!

Here's a pic of my 3 year old female. She is a 3rd generation hold back, so I know mine have been all prairie king for roughly 10 years or so. Mine start out a bit brighter then settle into this color.
