Welcome to the wonderful world of the Pyxie Frog, good choice. well anyway. if it is a young frog i personally would feed it about everythree days. i like to give alot of bug protein, but at the younger age i feel they can utilize alittle more "meat" in their diet. so you can feed a pinkie about everythree weeks, but as they get older i tend to stay with more bug protien than "meat". i also feed fish to them at all sizes. i try to stay away from the feeder gold fish just because i think they can be high in fat since they lay eggs. were as a live barring fish such as a Molly Platy or Sword Tail. tend to be higher in protein, than fat. Now with bugs you have many different ones to choose from. i will try and list everything i feed. Crickets, mealworms, superworms, waxworms(high in fat), silk worms, hornworms, Can o Snails, earthworms, roaches (dubia), and as soon as it gets alittle warmer i am going to try some butter worms.

set-ups, personally i dont heat my Pyxies, i never have and it really doesnt seem to matter all that much they eat and metabolize like crazy, and grow like weeds. i have one that likes to burrow so i use the Firbark w/ peat moss from R-zilla and it works great. and my big femal hates to burrow and lovs to sit in water, so she sits in water about up to her elbows.

i hope this helped, if i missed anything let me know, hopefully other people will chime in too

Adam

I applaud your diet. I have a huge male Pixie that has eaten everything from live birds, frogs, fish, tadpoles, lizards, crickets, worms...you name it. I think variety is a major key here and to focus early on with high protein content as they are primarily needing to build a large percentage of bone in the early two years.

My frog couldn't be healthier. I think that its because I change the water without exception at the least bit of uncleanliness. My frog can't stand an unclean tank. I used substrate in early years but found trying to clean out a 10 gallon with all the substrate a little too daunting a task. Face it, if its uneasy to clean...you simply wait to long. But if you can clean it in as little as 5-10 minutes, then you'll do it more often. I heat lower (heat mat) and upper (heat lamps). I vary the intensity as my frog will move around the tank to suit his needs. He usually sits in water up to his front legs.

I place plant around the tank to make him feel at home and boy when he sings...he sort of shakes the area....pixies rule. Hope this helps.
