How long can a BRB hold it's breath?

waspinator421 Mar 06, 2007 06:39 PM

I was just curious about this because I found my new BRB, Indigo, with his head completely submerged and underneath his body in his water tub. I made sure he hadn't drowned, and all he did was move his head a bit and flick his tongue.

How long do you suppose they can stay submerged for? He seems quite content in his soaking, though.

Thanks!

I've seen mine submerged many times and always assumed they felt the vibrations of me coming and ducked under the surface. I've always said they don't need much ventilation.

...I have never timed them but I have seen them stay submerged for a very long time. 30 minutes seems like a very long time to us but for these animals which do not burn calories to maintain temperature 30 minutes is probably fairly easy.

30 minutes.... WOW! Ok, I won't worry too much about him then. Besides, he probably knows what he is doing.

Thanks everyone for your replies!
