Depressed Ackie! Help!

fatbot_n_beets Mar 07, 2007 11:03 AM

So I purchased an ackie off the classifieds about a month and a half ago. he/she is a baby, only 7 inches from head to tail. When we first got him he was excited, vigrous, and full of life, and an appitite. He quickly ate any crickets that were to be offered, as well as turky burger, and a pinkie mouse chopped up into peices. We did not handle him for a month after we got him and he showed all the signs of being an active healthy little guy. He was taken to a vet as well who did a physical exam and a fecal and given a clean bill of health. About a week ago I held him for the first time, he was quite flighty at first but eventuly calmed down. before I put him down though he shook his head around strangly and regurgitated a cricket into my hand. he closed his eyes and I put him down and he didnt really move to much. Since then he's lost all appitite, and is no longer energetic or digging or trying to dig into the substrate. He slowly moves around hte cage very lethargic like and will many times just stop to close his eyes for a bit. He was in a small (18G) tote when I got him, and I have since moved him to a bigger enclosure. The origional was way to hot, as the basking site pretty much heated up the whole cage to 87-90 range, and kept the humidity lower then it shouldve been at about 35-40. I have him in a new enclosure since yesterday with better substrate for digging (top soil/sphagnum mix) and allowes for a greater range of temps. (low side 80 basking site at 120) and the humidity is higher in the new one (50). Since hes been in the new cage, he's still lethargic, kind of just slowly moving around, not trying to dig not doing to much of anything. Should I wait a few more days to see if the new cage will bring more energy to the little guy? What am I doing wrong here guys? help me out please

Two days later, and The humidity has been adjusted to be at 50 all day long. And the temps are 110-120 at the basking site for a good range, and 80 on the cool end of the cage. The soil has been changed to a topsoil/sand mix which is kept slightly moist for humididy. He has still been lethargic and not eaten in 3 days. He usualy hangs out right under his light, or surrounding rock structure and doesnt go anywhere else. I soaked him and he took a poo yesterday but that is just about it. any input would be greatly appreciated.
