Breeding

Demetrius Mar 07, 2007 06:36 PM

Well today while cleaning cages I put my male lavender albino cali king in with my female striped cali . When I went to got take the male back out (like two minutes later) they were locked up . They were locked together for about five hours . I didn't really have any intention on breeding but I guess they had other plans .

Did you hibernate them? I've had some breed with not hibernating them. The power of love or? LOL!

I think Cal Kings don't necessarily need to brumate.
The male that fathered my clutch last year did not have a proper brumation. The female did (bought her last year post brumation) though.

My *guess* would be floridana, splendida, and nigrita all are capable of breeding w/o "proper brumation". Maybe other getula too.

Soft music, candle light, nice romantic meal of mice. LOL!

Assuming copulation was succesful - she may reject prey. If she does, try offering fuzzies instead of adult mice. Don't worry if she rejects those too.

6 to 8 weeks or so she will probably shed, when she goes blue, give her a nesting with moist but not wet substrate (asbestos free vermiculite, perlite, moss, coconut husk fiber work well). Try to make the nesting box as dark as possible. Make sure it doesn't dry out. She will likely lay a week to 10 days after that shed.

If you google "breeding kingsnakes" you should probably find lots of detailed information.

Where is your lavender from? Know what line it is?
