Nice! Now if the ones at the local shows here looked half as good, we'd be in business. LOL
Nice names too! Enjoy your new friends!

yeah i got pretty lucky with these guys! i got them from a young kid who has been breeding them for awhile, and said he has like 25 to get rid of. these 3 had the brightest and best colors, and im seeing them come out even more every day under the 10.0uvb (he was using a 5.0 i think he said). they have already put on a good bit of weight, and have filled out nicely. they eat like little pigs, and make a mess doing it for sure! im lucky enough to have a local show here once a month (all md reptile show in havre de grace, md), and most of the breeders there for any of the animals are pretty good people. if you are really that interested in them, i have the kids number...lol

sorry but those are (and I am 99.99999% sure)WC
Mali's just came in the past month. All the importers have them. Mali has just started warming up so the uros are out and so are the collectors.
He lied. I am not saying this is good or bad WC CB LTC it's how you look at it. They are a little slender from brumating and this is normal in the wild. You should notice weight gain from eating , if not test their poop. I only post this so you know what you have. I am sure there are those who can verify this for you on the forum.

the only thing that makes me question if you are correct or not is that this kid seems to be no "importer"...just some young kid, maybe 18, still in school and lives at home with mom and dad (his dad was there). plus the price was rather low, even for imports (all 3 for $120, he said he has too many, and he had 8 or so at the show). he said he has been breeding for awhile now, which is very possible in his situation. he did say they had just been brumated, so that may be why they are a little skinny also. you may be 100% correct though, you never know. i think ill give him a call and find out a bit more, just in case. either way, i am very happy with these guys, and was planning on a fecal anyhow (i am neurotic about that with new animals).
anyone else have any input on that idea? it honestly never crossed my mind until now...thanks!

These animals are definitely adults - at least three years old. If he's a breeder, why in the world would he keep them that long only to sell them? It's certainly not impossible that he bred them, but I doubt it. They do look reasonably healthy if they're recent imports, so as long as they're eating and you have fecal checks done, it probably really doesn't matter at this point.

I think the price is right in line for imports as well. They don't even look long term captive really unless they were just not taken well care of. Uro's in captivity just look so much different, even if they were once WC it's just hard to explain but you can see it.

"He lied. I am not saying this is good or bad"

I hope I misunderstood that, but lying to sell something is called fraud. Shouldn't we consider it unethical and immoral. It's illegal in all 50 states but difficult to prove. It's extremely common with certain species of reptiles, including uromastyx. (compared to bearded dragons for example where they are all captive-bred for many generations). Admittedly, sometimes the retailer takes the word of the wholesaler and doesn't realize. If a dog-breeder sells fraudulently they might lose their AKC credentials or get sued. A used car salesman probably gets away with it if it was verbal but could get charged theoretically. A racehorse breeder who lies about bloodlines to the wrong buyer probably wakes up dead.

I should have worded that better. I would never condone any misrepresentation of ANY animal,it"s origin, bloodline, pedigree, or even temperament. uro, horse, pitbull, greyhound, snake, etc. Many other things I won't ever condone pertaining to animals. But it is not my place to judge someone who mistakenly purchased a WC. I only meant it is up to oneself to determine if WC,CB, or LTC is appropriate for one to keep as a pet or otherwise. If it was me I would have embarrassed him in front of whoever was there, and I am sure I would wake up the next day. I see it as that WC could be the cause of a CB cagemate waking up dead, if you take the word of everyone with a bin to put uros in.

myuroskeeper Mar 13, 2007 12:14 PM

and that would be just one more place i am not allowed.

myuroskeeper Mar 13, 2007 12:28 PM

Not to come off as crazy- but I hate to see them suffer and I hate to be lied to...and people just hate it when I call them on it when Mrs. Smith is buying puppy chow.

Arredondo Mar 08, 2007 04:55 PM

Hate to say this but, you've been had. Nevertheless, sure hope they stay healthy.
