Tail wagging

nchernandez44 Mar 07, 2007 08:51 PM

Do males push out there cloaca a little and tail wag when a female is near? I purchased a male pastel and and two normal females. all are breeding size. I was cleaning out a cage and placed one of the females in with the male for about ten minutes. when i was about to grab her out i saw that my male was wagging his tail and pushing his cloaca out a little as he moved about the cage. I havent gotten them sexed yet, just going off of what i was told from previous owners. Could it be that my male pastel is really a female?

sorry if i mispelled anything. typing fast and at work

Last week I dropped my het. pied male in with a normal female and she was doing the tail wagging and cloaca gapping.I also observed that she would press her cloaca to the substrate (newspaper) and leave little "snail trails" that had small blood streaks in them. The next day the male was hooked up with her. This is my first year breeding balls,so I would like to hear a more experianced breeders thoughts on this subject myself.

This is my first year breeding and everytime I put my male in with my female she would start tail wagging and pushing her cloaca out. Good luck with your python whatever the sex.

well if it is a female, that kinda sucks. I have to buy another male then for them. Im probably gonna get it sexed by a vet but its kinda expensive. 30 bucks to get sexed around here.

Thanks for the responses

I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. I also have a pastel male that exhibited the same behavior & thought that maybe "he" was a "she", which wouldn't have been so bad since you can get a male quite a bit cheaper than a female. Anyway, he has since locked up with several females this season so "he" is definitely a "he".
