Probably 99% of the albino emoryi ratsnakes commonly availble come from the WC Kansas animal that was owned by Don Soderberg. LOTS of those have since been crossed into albino cornsnakes, so be careful of "unknowns." I was even sold a hybrid as a pure albino emoryi once. Yuck. Thankfully, I found out before I was able to breed her. The albino-gene emoryi crosses tend to be slightly more orange that pure Kansas stock albino emoryi.
Anyway, Don's stock is LIKELY the first step in the history of your animal - as is it with most pure albino emoryi out there. Talk to the source where you got yours - maybe he got his breeders from Don. A few years ago, Don sold out of emoryi and I purchased his entire collection. I've since sold off most of them, and I only keep about 20 or 25 emoryi at present. Still, I love those guys a lot. The albino emoryi ratsnakes are one of my favorite "domestic" snakes.
All these recent emoryi posts made me interested in posting an image or three of the albino chocolate emoryi I produced last year. This is the seocnd one to ever get hatched out. Don did the first one (which came to me when I got his colony) and I produced #2 in 2006. Here is the hatchling.

By the way, she is much more "fluorescent" pink in between the yellow markings than a camera can capture. ...or at least than I can capture with a camera....lol. The lighting was yucky - I took them in the fog this morning - so I've got to say "sorry 'bout dat."

KJ, let me start by saying those albino chocolate emoryi are stunning. Don's pics are the only ones I'd ever laid eyes on other then the pics you just posted. They are gorgeous.
Now on a different note, what's the history and present status of the other albino that's not decended from Don's Kansas animal? I've only seen it mentioned on Kathy Love's website, saying it was not compatable to the orginal albino. Thanks in advance.
Steve
Thanks. Don started the project. I just continued it. Have you ever seen on in person yet? They look better in person than a camera seems to be able to capture (the pinks). This baby is even brighter than the first on (produced by Don). It's just natural variation, but I'm glad to see that number two is at least as pretty as number 1. That shows promise for this project. The part that is upsetting is that BOTH are females, so I'm still stuck using a double het male as a father.....lol.
One of these days, I need to post images of the adult, too. She's gravid right now, so I hate the idea of pulling her out and tracing across the yard with her. Now what I mean?
I'm not an expert on the other lines - mainly because I wasn't able to obtain any when I was first getting heavily into Emory ratsnakes. But, I do know that there is ANOTHER Kansas line. The founder was captued not too far from where Don's was located, so it looks pretty similar. I know those are available, in small numbers, in the trade. I'd be surprised if those two genes aren't allelic. There was also a line of albino emoryi for SOUTH Texas that popped up a couple of years before I bought Don's colony. They were much lighter and paler - like a CLEAN creamsicle in coloration. Nice. They might be the ones that aren't allelic. I suspect they are - if ANY line is truly not allelic to Don's line. They aren't as high copntrasting, so they never seemed to catch one. Since they'd have larger clutches, they should be more common. I'm actually scared this line has just about dwindled into non-existence.
There WAS a previous albino found in south Texas in the mid-90's or so. The guy refused to sell it. Rumor has it that he also refused to feed it and clean the cage. I can't support that rumor, but I DO know I never heard of any offspring from that line ever existing. Sad.

When you get all your emoryi up to breeding size, I may have to purchase a het female from you. I was going to maybe breed my albino male to one of my normal females, but if I can get a head start with a het female, that would even be better.
