New taipan species discovered

WW Mar 08, 2007 05:01 AM

Morning folks (it is where I'm sitting),

Here's some news to wake everyone up: Doughty et al. (WA Museum) have described a new species of taipan from WA.

Paul Doughty, Brad Maryan, Stephen C. Donnellan & Mark N. Hutchinson (2007) A new species of taipan (Elapidae: Oxyuranus) from central Australia. Zootaxa 1422: 45–58.

The paper is available as a free download from www.mapress.com/zootaxa/2007f/zt01422p058.pdf

Happy reading.

Cheers,

Wolfgang

Great stuff Wolfgang!

It looks like more work needs to be done in the Australian arid zone of western Australia. The author seems confident of other undescribed species but I wasn't sure if he meant Oxyuranus or just herps in general. Thanks for sharing.

Yo,

I think he was just talking herps in general - but hey, who knows, it's a big continent!
