One fine day: Black White-Lip eggs!

mturner01 Mar 08, 2007 09:33 AM

Marrying my wife Nicci and the birth of my kids top this, but not much else. I have been really hammering on this projecet for a long time and it is so good to see my first Southern (Black) White-lip eggs! This is the ideal species to challenge yourself with. They are rarely bred and when they are, it is usually a luck thing and the breeders have not been able to offer much assistance.

My prior experience with Gold WLPs and Water pythons totally misled me on what to expect. These Blacks lay gigantic eggs! They are way bigger than a ball python egg! I could talk about these all day, but here are some pics to say the rest.

Pretty much UNREAL sums it up for me. There is a lot of 'talk' about people breeding this species, but in 15 years this is the FIRST legitimate CBB clutch I've ever seen (maybe I need to get out more?!). I wish you all the best with those eggs!!!

Matt

I agree Matt. All these "true CBB" babies floating around lately, you would think if someone actualy breed them in the US, as rare as it is, they would be showin it off and jumpin for joy!!! I would be!!!
I hate to sound negative about some of these others with CBB babies for sale recently, but I contacted one guy and he said he could not reveal the persons name who breed them??? OK???? IMPORTS, or farm bred is not CBB, lol!! If the breeders have put in that much work, why would they not want people to know they produced them??

Congrats , is this species large ?and can they be kept like balls? Great job and good breeding , you might want to keep notes on what you did to finally produce them.

Jasin Mar 09, 2007 06:43 PM

HOW MANY EGGS?????!!!!!!!! DETAILS MAN, DETAILS, LOL!!!

mturner01 Mar 10, 2007 08:03 AM

The female is my smallest girl, only being about 7 feet long and this is her first clutch. She laid 5 huge eggs measuring (averages) 9.5 cm in length, 14 cm in diameter, and 126 grams in weight. One of the eggs appears to be a shelled slug, but the other 4 are veined nicely.

On another note of good news, I was just out feeding the pythons and my big girl (a 9 footer) has refused food twice now and I caught her inverted basking. She won't let me palpate her, unfortunately.

If she is laying inverted, I would assume she is close to laying??? My Fuscus always do this about 2 -3 weeks prior to laying. That would be sweet if you got 2 clutches!!! Are they all unrelated??

Rolf Mar 12, 2007 06:44 PM

Outstanding Matt. Do you maintain your blacks any differently than you do your golds?

These are pics of my partially successful gold clutch last year.
