Tektum Mar 08, 2007 08:18 PM

Can someone tell me if this is clearly a Northern Blue Tongue Skink? Thanks! Leo

It looks to have some traits similar to the northerns I've kept, but also some a few similarities to the Irian Jayans I've had. (Not gigas but the other T. scincoides ssp.) Typically the northerns have lighter front legs that are about the same color as the head and the dorsal pattern is somewhat different. I obviously cannot be 100% sure, but I would not consider it a "pure" northern if it were in my collection. (Pure a relative term when dealing with captive bred subspecies without definite pedigrees.) Also adult size may be an indicator. Most my northerns are and have been over 24 inches as adults, whereas my irian jayans were typically shorter. Probably not the answer you were looking for, just my opinion.

Thanks for your reply ~ The type of Blue Tongue doesn't matter so much to me, i'm curious more than anything else.
These two Blue Tongues had been abandoned in Pennsylvania last year and I was curious about there types, because the one in the photo has alot of red and looks very different from the other. I personally had thought it may be a cross between a gigas and a Northern. I will post a better picture later of the two of them together. I appreciate the post, Thanks, Leo
