I just got my first rats for breeding, a male and 2 females. The male is much bigger than the females. He keeps chasing the females around and they are squealing. I can't tell if he just wants to play or if he is actually being mean. They will be fine for a while and then all of sudden they are squealing and running again. Is he really being rough or are they just playing?

He looks a little overzealous, seeing as this is the first time in with females. Should i take him out for a few days or just hope they settle down. It doesn't look like he is actually bitting them, just trying to breed and they really don't want too.

As long as there is no blood drawn and they aren't REALLY screecing, I would leave them together. They should settle down.

That should read screeching.
Also, are the females big enough to breed? At least 250 grams?

They seem to have settled down a good bit, now it definitely seems like playing. I have not weighed them but the male is about 4 or 5 months and the females are about 3 to 4 months old (this is what the store said). The male is a very big large if not an XL and the females are both very big mediums to small larges.
