brad_k96 Mar 08, 2007 11:12 PM

i bought a 6ft columbain and it ishaving problem shedding (had this problem when i got it yesterday) i put it in a sterilite container with lightly damp aspen shavings and raised the temp to about 80 degrees to add some humidity. is there anything else i can do to help get this snake to shed better.

Sounds like a good plan. I've always recommended the wet pillowcase trick. Tie em up in a wet pillowcase, put that back in the cage and come back in an hour or so.

If it's really bad, will probably take a few shed to fully clear up. It's an indication of humidity too low. Limit your ventilation a bit to raise humidity.

Lastly there are some shed aid products on the market, I've never used any so can't say how well they work. Might be worth a trip to the reptile store?

wetting the aspen and raising the temp didnt help too much. i ended up hosing the snake down with some stuff called shed aid. i diluted it and it worked pretty good. when ity shed i seen something odd. it shed 2 layers of skin.the first came off with the shed med and the second came off after the snake sat in the water bowl for a day. has anyone ever seen anything like this before.
