Corn Snake Activity

BasiliskMaster Mar 08, 2007 11:37 PM

1)My corn snake stays under his water bowl forever! When I get him out he goes back into his "shelter" again.
Is this normal? I don't think he likes to come out to light?
And also, my corn doesn't move much. Is this ok?

2)I bath my corn about once a week. When i put him into the water and let him swim around, I noticed that every time he gets into the water, he defecate in it, ALWAYS.
Is this normal?

If you give him a good hide spot, they WILL spend most of their time in it. Make sure the temps are OK where it is hiding (some snakes are so stupid they'll hide instead of thermoregulating meaning they'll cook in their hide spot!) He's "safe" in the hide spot, not hungry, etc., so he has no reason to come out. That's what snakes do.

That's typical - especially for young ones. It probably moves when you aren't around scaring it - especially at dawn and dusk. As long as it is eating well and has good muscle tone when you take it out, I don't read anything here that should cause an alarm.

Yeah. That's normal.

My corn hides under her bowl all the time as well. It is pretty normal, they love to dig/burrow so I wouldn't worry about it. In terms of not moving, snakes are pretty lazy. The only time my snakes move very much is when i handle them or after they eat.

The defication, very normal as well, mine don't do it EVERY time, but if they have eaten recently and I bathe them it's pretty common.
