I assume you are talking about UVB.
Some websites say that the compact lights put out no usable UVB. Whether they do or not a standard tube will put out light and UVB over the entire enclosure.
I would buy a 36" flourescent fixture...the kind that would be "hard-wired". You can get one at home depot or lowes. Also, you are going to need a plug for it. they also sell replacement plugs with cord....i guess for those people who have cut their power cords with the circular saw.
It sort of depends on how you are building your cage. is it wood framed? because, you are going to want to screw the fixture up to the top of the cage....also, how do you open the cage? if from the top, you may have to secure the fixture to the back. I would make the door to the cage on the front, that way you can attach the fixture to the top.
another benefit for haveing the door on the front is that you could use a mercury vapor bulb on the top and still be able to open the cage without disturbing the light (MVBs are sensitive to excessive motion).
If you really want some UV light to benefit your dragons, i suggest using MVB....flourescent tubes do not put out usable UVB that your dragon needs.

It is a Front door wood cage. Would the the Mercury Bulbs be able to go directly in the cage? I was going to attach everything the top of the cage. Would I have cut out the top for a dome light?
Hi
am using all 3 compact mercuryvapour and reptisun 5.0
i think i stil like the reptisun 5.0
it give good colors to youre dragon but they must be very closeby.
say not more then 10 inches .
in the netherlands they now have new lichts compact from terra exo 5.0 and am now testing them out.
they do it good for far as i notice they r 13 watt and give just as much licht as the pwoersun 100 watt.
the mercury can give more uvb/uva but i not liken the colors from mine beardies under the reptisun the colors r much nicer .
als picture take under the mercury licht r not so nice .
so after all i would go for the reptisun 5.0 close bij .
i have got a 5.0 compact from zoomed but they gave my babie beardies welding eyes .
i stil waith on the test zoomed europe would do on that licht i have send it over to them .
byueeeeeee
