Please recommend a book about venomous snakes...

vakejairam Aug 12, 2003 06:37 AM

Hi,

There are tons of books written about venomous snakes. Can anyone recommend a rather "new" and comprehensive book?
How about a book the focuses on vipers, any recommendations?

As of now, I'm more focused on vipers. The books I've read seem to be outdated.

Please let me know...

Thanks,

VJ

the Campbell-Lamar Venomous Reptiles of Latin America is an excellent book. I has good data and excellent photos. Unfortunately it is out of print.
On the positive side, they are supposed to be publishing a new book by Lamar et al later this year. It will be on the venomous species of the Americas and will cover from Canada south through Tierra del Fuego.
Peter Brodmann's Die Giftshclangen Europas und di Gattung viper in Afrika und Asien is also a good book with photos from various locales on many species.

They don't offer information on husbandry, however. That you pretty much have to get from individuals or sharing websites.

There are many more books out there, some general, some species specific, but you can't have them all unless you are R I C H.
