HELP!!!! FEMALE DIGGING LIKE CRAZY!!!!

Buggzter Mar 09, 2007 02:38 PM

Ok, I've had this female for about 2 1/2 weeks I'd say, she's eating like a horse (if there are crickets, she will eat until there are NOT crickets...). The day we brought her home, Jewel tried mating with her... since then, neither of the boys have done much with her, but they are all friendly... But today, she has gone bezerk! She's digging and digging and digging and digging in one corner in the warm side (it's only about 2 inches of sand, but they've never dug like this before!), and it only started today!

I don't THINK she's lumpy, but she's almost doubled in size it seems in her waist (she was SKINNY when we got her, tho her tail wasn't too thin), and I'm not sure if she's lumpy (but I don't think so)... Any suggestions?????? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Should I put down an egg box ofsort for her? what size, stubstrate, how moist.... I have not looked much into the breeding of these yet, so I didn't worry about it. she didn't have breeding-like colors (at least, I don't THINK she did), but it's been close to 20 days since Jewel jumped her... PLEASE GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS!!!!!!! I NEED IT!!!!!!!!! lol! I'm just confused.... =)

Lol, no worries and no need to freak out, I would recommend wetting the sand where she is digging though. A lay box might be in order though as many have their lizards lay in secure, slightly damp soil areas.

Congratz and good luck.

Ok, I went back and looked at what day I got her: it was over Presidents' Day weekend (money withdrawn "on" 2/20), so I think it was actually 2/17. That means it's been... almost 28 days since we got her. It's quite possible that sometime in there, Spike or Jewel (we've switched things up a few times to see how everyone was most comfortable) hooked up with her, or they are infertile... but she's digging to China if it weren't for the glass in her way!

SOOOO... First thing in the morning, I'm cleaning her cage (it's due), and putting in a lot of extra sand. In whatever corner she starts digging, I'll promptly wet down for her and see what happens. Hopefully we'll have eggs before the weekend! I'm excited, kinda...

So how do you tell if the eggs are fertile or duds? How long do you wait on them? And where do you get the medium for the eggs container? And is there a good way to incubate WITHOUT an incubator? I hadn't planned on spending much more on the collareds until I got settled with a job (unless it's vet-related, which I will go all out for if needed!)... AHHHHH!!!!! I wasn't ready for her doing this this spring!

And if the eggs are fertile, should I expect more clutches? if they are duds, should I expect more clutches too? I know she's growing like a weed... I'll try to extra-dust the crickets for her right now - I wasn't thinking I'd need to.... lol!

The males and Dawn are all Shedding like crazy. We've had the boys for under 3 months, and they have both shed at the same time 4 or five times! (we got them after Christmas and before New Years) And Dawn shed right away, shed two weeks later, and is about to shed again!!! I'll have to measure them for you guys to see what all is happening... But Spike has turned into a heavyweight, Jewel is a skinny and fiesty scrap who loves to get away, and Dawn has just filled out and has a larger waist...

So yeah, likely eggs... and IF there are eggs, I'll have to take a trip here to get them (I live an hour away from Tony, who houses the freaks lol), and I'll incubate them myself! Any suggestions you may have are very welcome. Thanks!
