hey,i just bought a live plant for my cham. today,i was wondering will i have to clean the soil out every so often to make sure its clean??i also free range bugs in his cage..i bought him a potho plant..how tall can they get??the guy who sold it to me said they don't get really tall, but i do remember everyone recommending potho plants..mine is very small now,soo i'm gonna let it grow alittle first..i haven't setup his new cage yet either, waiting to get all the branches and stuff for his cage that i ordered yesterday..any other things i should know about keeping the plant in good condition for my chameleon besides the basic watering of the plant and the initial cleaning of it before putting it in the cage??his new cage is 36'' in height,30'' in length, and 18'' in width..

Pothos don't get that tall, as they are more of a vining plant. As the stems get longer you can give them structures to climb on and they'll travel all over. A lot of keepers hang the pots. Keeping any houseplant alive means repotting them periodically anyway. The plant will eventually outgrow its current pot and get root bound. You can change the soil when you give it a larger pot. Keeping plants healthy in a cham cage means giving them enough light, don't let the pot sit in a pool of water (like a pot saucer). Soggy roots will rot the plant and produce those little black gnats. And occasionally feeding them with a good houseplant fertilizer. Depending on the cage and room humidity you may need to water the plant itself once a week. Check the soil first...if the soil is dry down to the depth of your finger, water it.
