My enclosure size

asia2003 Aug 12, 2003 07:27 AM

Hi All,

I have a room at the back of my house, which so far I have been using as a storage area. I plan on using a third or more of it for my tegu enclosure, the dimensions would be 4.5ft wide x 16ft long, with regular 7-8 ft ceiling height, is this enough space??? I was originally going to use the entire room, but have to divide it (build a wall) to use the other half of the room for storage still (too much junk!!!!) The room is enclosed, with a big screen window on the tegu side, not air conditioned, and I live in FL, do no probs with heat and humidity, and there is a space at the top all the way around, for air ventilation, I think somebody tried to extend the house at some point and gave up, but it will work for me!!

Wow that'd be a huge cage. I'm sure he'll feel right at home in a cage that size. The only hitch I can think of is summer temps. I would monitor the hide box and make sure it doesn't get into the 90s so he has someplace to escape the heat. I've actually heard of someones tegu dieing from it getting too hot. If he could burrow into the ground it probably won't be more then 80s down there.

Size is big enough. If your tegu gets out you might be careful what it can get into or out of...don't think I would trust sheetrock of that's whats on the walls to hold something in. I would put half sheets of plywood 2' X 8' to have a better barrier. Sounds like tegu nirvana.
