Cheap/quick finish for raw wood shelves?

HaikuDan Mar 09, 2007 09:58 PM

My herp room has shelves made of 2x3 lumber and plywood and attached/built right to the wall studs.

I'd like to finish them so they look a bit nicer and are not so receptive to dust and dirt or oversprayed moisture from a mist bottle.

I can't stain them or seal them in the populated room and I don't want to take them apart if I can help it.

Is there something I could use? Something cheap I could laminate? I have around 60 square feet of shelf surface, but wouldn't mind covering the 2x3s facing front.

Dan

You can stain and seal them, if you're careful to pick out water based products. Although typical construction lumber does not take stain very well.

Paint would also work.

Laminating tends to be expensive, even if you use cheap shelf liner.
