What Kinds Of Worms?

TonyC130 Mar 10, 2007 11:21 AM

Hey, How do you guys feel about feeding hornworms , silkworms, phoenix worms, butterworms and superworms? I dont feed any of these roght know but I'd like to mix my Leopard Geckos diets up a little, I think they're getting bored of waxworms, mealworms and Crickets.

Thanks, Tony C

I've used butterworms before, without much luck. I found personally that the size of the butterworms was a tad bit much for them to handle. They still ate them, but they weren't nearly as interested in the other items they've had. It could be because the butterworms were new, but I don't think I'll be making them a regular part of their diet. Plus, around where I live, it's 25 cents for each worm, so it turns into a pricey matter pretty quickly. As for the other worms, I haven't tried any, so I couldn't say. I do plan on giving Phoenix worms a try.

Yeah I plan on giving phoenix worms a try too, I mean, it could'nt hurt, and they might like them. But thanks for the info on butterworms, its really helpful, right now I'm feeding my geckos mealworms, crickets, and waxworms but I want to mix it up a bit like I said before so I think I'll try butterworms ( of the proper size) just to see how my leos like them but I definetely want to try phoenix worms. Right now I'm just trying to gather lots of information on each worm from people who know stuff about them.
**By the way can you buy certain sizes of butterworms?**

Thanks Again,
-Tony C

Yeha, you can around me. Maybe it's just ones that have grown a little slower or what have you, I'm not sure. But I've seen them as small as about 3/8 of an inch and up to just under an inch. Unless, of course, the worms they sold me weren't really butterworms at all. That'd be pretty funny actually.
