With all this Axanthic talk...

EmberBall Mar 10, 2007 12:17 PM

Those of you that have Axanthics, Hets, or want to aquire some in the near future, what projects are you going to use them for? How many people are actually working on a Snow project? True Ghost project? Axanthic with a Co Dom cross? Axanthic with a Simple Recessive cross?

I will work my Axanthics into a True Ghost project, and lay back and wait for someone to produce some stunning Axanthic crosses that have not been made yet, and then jump on that project...I am not shy!

I am planning on producing double hets for snow next year, and having figured out just what else yet.

The Snow project was in full swing about 4 years ago, when I bought my first Axanthic Hets, but it seems to have come to a screeching halt with the emergence of the Ivory and Leucistics. While I like the Snow, I just think I like a NICE Ivory better, and probably will not put any of my Axanthics into a Snow project. The good news for you, I think alot of people bailed on the Snow once all the white snakes started appearing, almost a new one daily for awhile, and who knows, maybe the Snow will become popular again, and with relatively few people working on it, maybe you make out nicely! Good luck.

Whats cool about the sno is that it is not a WHITE snake! It has a very lightened pattern. Plus it's not a co-dom, it is a DOUBLE HOMOZYGOUS animal. That alone makes it more vaulable and cooler to me than any co-dom white snake.

I have been to the Sutherland's place when they were in Lancaster, here in CA, and have seen their Snow and their Ivory in person. When I saw their Ivory, the Ivory had not even been named yet, and I really liked it. I am pretty sure I saw their Snow too, but honestly cannot remember. At that time, a White snake was the Pinnicle of Ball breeding. That has obviously changed, as people are saying, "I hope my new Co Dom morph does NOT produce a white snake." First off, the SK's Snow is a very nice snake, but the Snow, in my opinion, has lost most of the luster it had when it was the only white snake. I still love a NICE Ivory, and when I produce one, it will not be kept on newspaper, so hopefully it will never look "dirty." So would I like to have a Snow one day, sure, a Snow to replace my Albino breeder would be cool, but it is not a "must have" for me. I would take a Paradox Lucy, a Paradox or normal Ivory over a Snow based on looks. Based on what it can produce, that is a different story. In closing, Dan and Colette are two of the best people in the business, I purchased most of my first Ball morphs (Hets) from them, and they were always very helpfull, and allowed me to visit when I went to pick some animals up, and walk through their snake room. I never went to their newest room, but man, what I did see was top notch, very healthy and CLEAN collection, and a place run to two amazing individuals. Did I say clean? I mean to have that many snakes, and keep it looking that good...takes alot of time and dedication!

Well last year I managed to prove my "jolliff" line axanthic was also het for albino by breeding him to an albino. I got two albinos, het for snow and four double hets. I also purchased a trio of het for VPI axanthic adults and managed to prove them out as well with two axanthics in each clutch. I will still be working on the "snow" project with the jollif's as I also have a het axanthic that is possible het albino. She did not go last year. I am also going to try for a axanthic bee, with my VPI male and spiders and pastels. That's the girlfriends favorite morph. Hey, with the hours I spend working with the snakes with no complaining from her it's the least I can do. LOL

I'd like to get an Axanthic next year or late this year. I would like to use it with my pastel. I will also be getting an albino later this year. The snow project is always a possibility. Has anyone pulled an Axanthic spider and I just missed it?

Thinking "Out loud" here. Doesn't the Axanthic reduce the yellow and crossed with the pastel make a fairly black and white snake? If so, what about throwing in a spider or pin? Or what the heck a Spinner?

Axanthics are definitely under rated.

I have never seen the axanthic spider but since nerd has produced the Axanthic bee and Axanthic Killer I would assume that kevin has done the Axanthic spider. Whats funny to me is that after seeing the Axanthic Killer bee at Daytona last year is what promted me to start breeding balls and I haven't picked up a single Axanthic yet. So I too am hoping to pick up a couple of Axanthics late this year. Just have to see where the price is.

Axanthic pastels seem to really keep the black and white better than regular axanthic. We have a 'white pastel' we have to prove out as a pastel axanthic but we're pretty sure it is a no brainer! He is white, silver and black!

I have several VPI Axanthic projects in the works...

I have a 100% DH Snow male and 5 50% DH Snow females I produced myself...

I have a VPI Axanthic female...I haven't decided what I will breed to her yet...Maybe a Genetic Stripe...

I have a Spotnose 50% het VPI Axanthic female (pictured) that I will try and prove out by breeding my VPI Axanthic male (pictured) to her...

I will also try to produce some Spiders 100% het VPI Axanthic next year...

I have bred my VPI Axanthic male (pictured) to some 50% het Axanthic females this year...Bred him to 2 last year, but didn't get any Axanthics...

I am hoping to make some Blonde Pastels 100% het VPI Axanthic this year also...

Axanthics are way under-rated if you ask me. They have been one of m y favorite morphs for as long as I have had ball pythons. We hatched some last year, and are planning on crossing them into everything. I have a big Het Female ovulating as I type. Here is a pic of some Axanthics that I hatched last year with a Het Axanthic.

Here is a project that I am really excited about.

I also have a pair of True Ghost double hets that have been breeding all season, so I am hoping for the gold cup.
Thanks for looking, and good luck to all those Axanthic projects coming to fruition,

Well first Im going for the DH True Ghost (VPI), also DH Snow (VPI) and of course just more axanthics (VPI). In my opinion you can not have to many axanthic females.
