Where to buy Ackies from a Breeder??

tritran03 Mar 10, 2007 02:59 PM

Hello,

I am starting to do my research on Ackies and want to know who breeds them out there. I am located in California. I heard that they are easy to breed but seem to be very hard to find in the Pet Trade. I would rather buy from a breeder than a wholesaler. Thank you.

Check on the classifieds here, you will find both breeders and wholesalers (reputable wholesalers are not really that bad with ackies, as they are all captive bred). Frank Retes (FR) also breeds them, and I think Robyn does too. Then again, I could connect you to a professor friend of mine who is breeding a ton of yellows right now. He has about thirty eggs that are supposed to hatch out sometime around this weekend, and several gravid females.

A point is that ackies are actually really commonly bred as far as monitors go, particularly yellows. You just gotta get lucky with the classifieds (usually there are a lot in the fall months, but some clutches will pop up here and there throughout the year), or have some connections. Anyway, good luck when you get one. And bless you for starting with an ackie and not a nile, water, or sav.

Cheers,
Ryan

Ryan,

Thanks for the info. I have already contacted Robyn and from a previous post FR is not selling right now to the public. Robyn seems to be the best source so far. Thanks again.
