building a cage for our iguanas

we are building cages for our iguanas and i want to stain/seal the inside, does anyone know if and what sort of stain i can use? i was hoping i could use a stain with the polyurathane already in it, but am not sure if this would hurt them. I want to make their new homes safe for them but also astheically pleasing to the eye as they will be a big focal point in our home. any and all replies/suggestions would be appreciated! thanks, lisa
