MBK cage does it look good? (1 Pic)

yungair23 Mar 10, 2007 07:26 PM

10 gal tank, 1 hide (Left), 1 water dish (right), Heat under hide (left) is at 87. Everything look ok? Again is for a hatchling MBK. This is my first colubrid. How quickly will a "hatchling" grow out of this setup, i have a 20L good to go anyways...(i have some many spare fish tanks that i figured id try my hand at colubrids they seem to do well in them)....

Yes it looks good.

For display purposes it looks good. You do have undertank heating,,, right? Mke sure you double check that screen top everytime you close the cage!!!!

By moving the bowls to the rear you will find the snake is more secure but less out in the open. If you want your snake to be more visible then the placement of the water bowl and hidespot (in the front or middle) are more self serving by how you have them placed in the pic..

..NOT that there is anything wrong with wanting to display your snake. MBK's are excellent captives in either sct up.

Yes i have a undertank heating pad, ive been monitoring the temps with a little mini digital thermo/hygro meter. I placed the hide and water dish thus way on purpose. So they can be behind the hide/water bowl and feel secure when out in the open. Like i said depending on the size of the snake i plan to get i will either keep this setup or throw it all in a 20L and another hide. I also have newspaper on the bottom just incase they like to burrow and so not to get burnt, or have to clean fece's off the bottom. Thanks im not really new to snakes though i may sound it, i just have never had a snake under 4ft.

I have never had one burn from sitting on a hot spot. The newspaper may be overkill.

what I meant in my previous post was if you put the water bowl and hidespot up against the back the snake will cram itself inbetween those small places (like a crevice) and feel more secure. As long as the two objects are placed in the middle you will be able to observe your snake more. Either way MBKs are tough and will do well irregardless. Its a nice set up you have and one I would do myself..

Personally I would put another hide on the cool side. Also, kings like low profile hideboxes. Something that touches them on all sides when they are inside.

Aside from that it looks fine

I too like to use newspaper under the bedding in fish tanks because it makes the tank a snap to clean. Just fold up the paper and all the bedding inside!

Do you have clips for that screen top? A juvie MBK will pop that top right off.

Looks good!

Put a paper towel or toilet paper roll inside, depending on the size of your guy. Even my 30+" black milks fit inside papertowel rolls. They LOVE them! Sit with their head between their coils looking out, and they love feeling secure. All you have to do is pick up the roll and give it a couple shakes for them to slide out!

What is that you have in the pic Matt? A Black Milk? Beautiful looking.

Thanks Steve, yes that is my one of my 3 black milks. That one is a male and is a '04 animal. I started with kings, but I have to say Black Milks are AWESOME!!!
