A cool find today..

jpenney Mar 10, 2007 11:26 PM

Randy Cordero, his girlfriend, some friends of mine and I went out on some private ranches today in Dimmit County, Texas. He's doing State permitted project on Retic. Colared Lizards. We found two. Here's one of them. Little guy was kinda dirty...

Jason, those are all some awesome looking animals! Love the retics and that is a wicked looking widow! Also loved the pin dot on the annulatta from the google earth post! Neat way to pin 'em down! Looking forward to more of your awesome pics and adventures in west Texas!

I have only seen one retic, it was moving pretty fast at the time and never got a close up view, they are pretty neat lizards, i agree with todd the widow is sweet.

Mike, did you hook up with Michael Cravens and Scott? They passed through Corpus and were on their way to the valley yesterday to look for speckled racers and lesser sirens.

I am really itchin' for some action out there! It has been good here already, but we had a good bit of moisture in Jan. and a leetle in Feb. Flipped a few rat snakes yesterday and a big female marcianus, no atrox, corals, or indigos this week. Also saw a fleeting glimpse of a patchnose in flight. Lots of skinks and rosebellied lizards, one Texas spotted whiptail.

Great finds! I hope the weather is cooperating for you. That Arachnid is AWESOME! Serious Wicked factor going on. Also I remember you posting that you worked for Dave Blody at FW Zoo. I think that is sooo neat. I loved going to the herpetarium as a kid. In 1991 there was a guy that worked there named Mark. He worked with Bothrops a lot. He saw that I was there almost every week and decided to give me a tour of the facility and I got to see all the different vipers and so forth. It was like a dream come true to see the different parts of the herpetarium that nobody ever gets to see. I think he moved to Florida.

Good luck this year. Hope to see you out west.

Best Wishes,

Steven Owens
