Prego is about to shed??

tsusnakeguy Mar 11, 2007 10:31 AM

My pregnant snake is about to shed, what does this mean? I know I have heard that it can be signs in redtails, I was wondering about rainbows.

We're all in agreement here (I think) that there is no pre-lay shed in BRBs. If there is, it's just coincidental. In 2006, I produced three clutches of BRBs. One femlae shed six months, one shed 3 months, and one shed 1 month prior to giving birth. Your snake seems right on track but I suspect the shed is meaningless. Good luck and eep us posted. We're counting down with you,

..Like Mike said, shed dates do not mean anything with these snakes. I have had them shed 2 and 3 and even 4 times while gravid and have had them lay months after shedding and even lay while opaque. The only reliable schedule I know of is that most of my litters were born around 5.5 months after last observed mating.
