Honduran feeding ?

DanW Mar 11, 2007 03:38 PM

What should an adult Honduran eat and how frequently? Would one small rat a week be enough or is that too much?

Thanks,
Dan

One a week is fine for an adult snake. They can take either large mice or small rats. The thickness of the food item should be about the same as the widest part of the snake.

My Black Milk that posted just below I usually feed small rats to. Granted he is only 2, but the other day my large Brooksi (mating mood) refused his medium adult rat (rodent pro stock). Even after eating the small rat, blacky took down the medium. Obviously it is a bit too large, but he has digested it well so far. Just thought I would share.

I personally would feed him one adult mouse a week or so.

How big is your adult hondo? I guess the rule of thumb is 1 prey item about the size of girth of the snake about once a week or so. I try to feed my females more often at breeding time to get them a little extra weight for egg laying. Derek
