is this a corn or gray rat, or both? PIC

scatmelee Mar 11, 2007 05:27 PM

here is what i do know; i bought him from a breeder who was breeding both corns and gray rats. the breeder told me he is a corn. i raised him from a hatchling. he didn't look like other gray rat babies. his saddles were much darker when he was a baby(almost black).
i think he might be a hybrid because he is six feet long and gray. but i think his markings look more like a corn except his belly(but, i never saw a gray rats belly).

what are your thoughts?

I think it is a cross between a Gray and a Great Plains Rat Snake. It has mostly Gray coloring except for the classic spear point marking on the top of its head.

Certainly looks like it could be a Cornsnake / Grey Ratsnake hybrid, but with all these Cornsnake morphs who knows? If it has Grey Rat blood in it, then it should be a lot bigger than your average Corn.

Whatever it is, it doesn't look bad.

It looks almost identical to a Wild caught gray rat I had 18 years ago.

its possible to be some type of integrade, but it does look like it could be straight up gray rat too.

I have to go with a Gray/Corn cross, but Gray/emory's is very possible.
Size, side blotches, and general look are Gray.
Spear point on head and checkerboard belly is guttata.
This is assuming it is, in fact, a pure Gray / pure Corn hybrid and not a Heintz 57!!! LOL.

that head looks like a corn's to me(narrow and a bit smaller that obsoleta's in proportion to body;of course the head pattern too)....i would say just an anerythristic corn,or could have some gray rat in it.but looks to be at least half cornsnake, imo.
