LOVE IS IN THE AIR

These animals are from my project (whitesides x reds). The red male is 100% het whiteside from a Trumbower ws crossed with a w.c. non locale red. The female whiteside is from parents that were both Crumbly red crossed with a Bell whiteside. This represents the first breeding for me of a red het whiteside to a whiteside with red blood. I am really excited to see what comes. I am not expecting red whitesides. What the photo shows some but not really well is the different saddle and body tones of this whiteside. It is my belief that since whitesides do not show much for red tones it makes sense that in areas where the animal would normally show reddish tones (a variance from what some call a "normal" bull) the coloration would be different than a "normal" whiteside. The female whiteside pictured is interesting in that she is second generation and shows a pretty noticable difference in looks between her and her grandfather. Her saddles are somewhat granite looking and are have a lavendar grayish look as well. Her head is actually cast green much like I have seen in some crumbly line bulls, but with her having a majority of white head it really shows up (except on a picture of course!). Her base color on her back is more of a buff color instead of just being a dirty gray or brown. I am anxious to see what selective breeding can produce. This male breeding her this year is far and away more red than the her parents were. I am hoping that by continually injecting more and new and better red blood into my whitesides that some more interesting things will pop up. If nothing else I have had a lot of fun the last five years raising up lots of babies for comparison! Anyway I love this time of year and can't wait for June! Take care all!
