Crack in shell.

atomicjade Mar 11, 2007 08:12 PM

Hey everyone. I just purchased two female Greek Tortoises, on the way home I noticed an evident crack in the back of her shell. She seems very lively and healthy, and it also doesn't seem "bad". But what can I do, or should I do? I am taking them to a vet soon since Greeks tend to be WC and have parasites anyway, but just wondering if I should be concerned. Here's a picture as well.

Thanks!

I would have a vet check it out.It might have to be sealed to prevent infection. You will also want her checked to make sure there isn't damage under/inside the shell.Notify the person/store that you purchased her from immediately.Even if you don't want to take her back, godforbid anything serious is wrong they should be held accountable for selling an injured animal.Cover all bases.Good luck

Thanks a lot. I bought her from a dealer at a reptile show, I really couldn't tell their associated name, and they didn't offer me any contact details. I'd agree my best bet is probably the vet, just wondering if there was anything I could personally do.

Many years from now the scutes will fall off and you will see were the bone repaired inself. One time Dr.Peter C.H.Pritchard was looking at a redfoot of mine with a big crack. He predicted the bone would fuse together and the scutes would fall off.7yrs later it did.The Tortoise was fine the entire time.Vic

What is the update on this tort and a cracked shell? What did the vet say? Is she okay?
