corns don't seem to be mating.

derekdehaas Mar 11, 2007 09:24 PM

i have a pair of creamsicle corns that i got as proven, well they already have been cooled and i pulled them out the day before feb. feeding have been done and the female shed 2 weeks ago and the male shed yeserday...so today i put them together as my first attempt of breeding and nothing, they are just sitting there like a cage mates lol.
my question is i can't really expect them to be right at it right away right? can i just leave them together all the time except for feeding time? i just got the feeling that they won't breed at all or i would ever get any snake to breed in my life lol. oh i did alittle of spraying on them..nothing. but the male body was twicting alittle since i put them together but that's about it.

i would just leave them together and then pull them away from each other for a couple days for feeding and then put them together for a week.
more than likely the male wont eat but the female might.
just keep trying

matter of fact the male won't eat 2 times and the female ate alot. so i do already know it's normal. thanks.

The shed is a good indicator of the time to breed.. but, some snakes (both male & female) need more time. I have a few king snakes that wait till after the 2nd post hibernation shed!

You can either leave them togher as someone else advised which would work. But, keep in mind that by doing this you have a very good chance of missing the lock up, so i would reccomend using newspaper as substrate so you will at least find a stain or some blood indicating a lock up..

Or you can seperate and reintroduce them every couple of days till they both are ready to go.

Good Luck!

well they seem to be done mating for now.....just wondering if i can clean up their mess like sperm and all that stuff? or i need to leave them alone even though they are not lock up right now? i will post pics soon. thanks.

Hey congrats on the lock up!!

Once they are done breeding you can seperate them and clean up the mess.. Then give them a day or 2 and reintroduce them and they should lock up with no problem at all..
