New Enclosure

Iguanamom Mar 11, 2007 10:01 PM

Hi everyone. I used to post here sometime ago. I have a roughly 5 year old iguana named ozzy and hes about 4ft long now. Well his current enclosure is 6ft high, 4ft wide and 3 ft deep. Since hes a growing boy i think its time to upgrade to a bigger condo. My son recently moved out and i now have a spare room. I would make him a free roamer but since i have a large dog and a cat, this is just not practical or safe. So we are planning a 10 ft wide, 6ft high and 4ft deep enclosure. Told my son if he moves back home he will just have to share a room with Ozzy. LOL So now im curious about heating, lighting and humidity for this size enclosure. So i was wanting any tips or advice you guys may have. I have a 5.0 UVB flourescent tube right now, basking lamp, and nightime infrared heat lamp. I just ordered a 160 watt TREX Mecury Vapor bulb and new ceramic fixtures, mine needed replaced. Sooo im just wondering what else im gonna need. I dont really feel comfortable with CHE's and not sure about heat panels. Just trying to explore all my options before we get into building t his. Thankfully my hubby is pretty handy and he will be doing most of the building and i get to supervise and decorate. LOL So any suggestions or tips you guys have i would love to hear them. Thanks Tami

Well what you might do is keep the door to that room closed, slap up a few shelves, add some ramps, hang the lights, put a humidifier so its humidity is coming up to the iguana, and also make sure you put a couple shelves near windows they enjoy looking outside.

I use a 160wat MVB bulb also (Its a MegaRay from Reptileuv.com). Any my enclosure is a closet that the door is always left open and a few of those wire closet shelves with ramps to the windows in my bedroom. At night as long as the house is in the 68-70 range then no extra night heat is required. I keep my bedroom door closed so he cant escape nor can my dog/cat come in. Has been working great for the past 2yrs now. Here's my enclosure. The shelves are just normal everyday wire closet shelves with vines, theres a humidifier, a tub of water, and some plastic on the carpet inside the cage to catch food that falls so i can just be vacumed up. Anyways hope i helped any questions feel free to email. Yungair23@yahoo.com.
