Slit in Belly??

wideglide Aug 12, 2003 09:57 AM

Hello all. I've had my bp for just over a month and have noticed a sort of slit on hisher belly about 4 inches from the vent. I've looked all over and searched this forum and cannot find any info about what this may be. The bp seems healthy and happy and this "slit" doesn't seem to cause it any problems. Can anybody tell me what this is, though?

Thanks in advance!

How old was your snake when you got it?

It could be where it absorbed the yolk, the snake equivalent of a belly button. It should be getting less and less visible over the first month or two.

Here is the slit on a fresh hatchling right out of the egg. There is sort of a mucus plug in the middle. It closes up quickly to be just a small strait line. By a month or so it might just barely be visible as misaligned scales.

My daughter was worried about that with hers, and I told her it would be ok (but secretly was concerned)
and that answers the question PERFECTLY

Thank you so much

That is it exactly. Thanks a bunch for the info. I was thinking maybe the breeder had taken the reproductive organs out to prevent breeding or something crazy like that.
