couple of questions....mostly about bree

codyandkasie Mar 12, 2007 01:37 AM

1) Do you have to seperate the male and female after breeding or can they just stay together?

2) I am building a breeding cage to get my pair out of the 40 breeder. The dimensions I have right now are 4 foot long 2 foot deep and 20 inches tall. Is this too tall? Is it a good size enclosure?

I think that these are the only questions for now.
All the rest of the questions Ive had I found the answers in the previos posts and stuff.
Thanks for the help!

Hi
it depend some times the male wil be relaxed after mating then you can keep them togheter.
but most of the time the male wil bobbing head and wil mate every time so then you need to separete him .
4x2x2 is nice size for a cage.
but i would make him longer thats better the more space the better.
i would try to go for a 6x2 x2 then they have more space to runn around .

If you're planning on putting the lights on the outside of the cage then 20" tall is good. If you're putting them inside you should probably go 24" tall.

2 x 4 is the recommended minimum size for one dragon. I'd certainly go to 6' long or 3' wide for 2. It's real hit or miss on whether you can keep a male and female together. To me the risk of injury is too great so I wouldn't recommend it.

I wouldn't keep them together. The risk of the male stresing the female out with constant breeding advances is too great.

If you REALLY want to try it then watch them carefully and have a cage ready to seperate them if there are any problems

I have to say i would not personally keep them together right after mating. You may be able to once the season is over but it will end up stressing the female out way too much to keep the male in the whole time. Good luck and hope all goes well.
