My adult pacman was eating today & puss started oozing from the side of her mouth. I inspected & found a small amount of blood & a goodly amount of puss coming from a small lump on the side of her mouth, right where the top & bottom jaws connect. I did some pushing (clearly uncomfortable for her) with a qtip & appear to have drained the pocket of most of the yellow puss. I'm currently soaking her in clean, dechlorinated water. What else can I do to heal the wound. Can I use betadyne on her? Neosporin?

I'm willing to do a vet visit, but would prefer to care for her at home as I've taken 2 other herps to the vet in the last week & am finincially drained.

is the wound inside of the frogs mouth or on the outside corner.
if it is inside then a vet visit is best, if it is outside, then plain neosporin or silver sulfadiazine cream can be applied topically. either way i would advise a trip to the vet, or at least a phone call for an opinion, in the interest of your frogs health.

It's on the outside.

then you can apply a topical antiseptic/antibiotic. the cream i listed before is best if you can find it, it is also called silvadene cream. apply with a cue tip to the problem area 2-3 times per day, clean the area well before application. you can also try to flush the wound with novasan, it is a blue disinfectant, similar to barbasol, used by barbors to disinfect their tools. dilute to a 5:1 or 10:1 water:novasan solution and use a syringe body, no needle, or medicine dropper to gently flush out the wound. it can sting and they generally don't like it, but it works great, just don't let them swallow more than a few drops, it is not toxic in small amounts but can cause further illness in consumed in large quanties. your best bet with an open, infected wound is to see a vet or at least call for advice.
good luck

Thanks. Unfortunatly, my 2 died w/in a few days of arriving home. We suspect they may have gotten too cold during shipping. Sandfire has been great & is replacing them, I'm just waiting for them to have some old enough & for my weather to get warmer for shipping. I can't wait to have some again. They're soooo cute!!
