help with breeding ball pythons

kyles Aug 12, 2003 10:10 AM

I was reading lots of sites and some books on breeding ball pythons. I have breed other snakes like milks and kings. I was seeing at almost no place really said i need to put them through a brumation period. This seemed odd. Even the kingsnake.com ball care shweet says nothin about the brumation thing. Let me know what you all do whaen you breed you ball pythons. I am getting a male and female in about a week so i know that i ave to start the hole process soon in like oct. or nov.
thanks

cody

I wouldn't really call the gentle cooling that most use with pythons and boas "brumation". Unlike snakes from colder climates you really don't want to cool these tropical guys much. All I do is move the undertank heat plug over to a timer so that it cuts off at night and they drop to room temperature (70's) but then in the day it is back up to mid to upper 80's so their immune systems can keep working. I think some have success without even this much cooling.
