My first Retic! PIC

matt_89 Mar 12, 2007 09:00 PM

This is a pure captive bred locality retic and in my opinion, the prettiest animal I've ever seen. Let's see who can guess what locality it is. BTW, this snake is in shed and the camera couldn't begin to capture its iridescence. This is a young one, about 2.5 feet in length.
So post back and tell me what you think and what locality you think it is.

Nice retic, the tail makes me think Sumatran. But I'm going to guess Selayar, due the the dorsal patterns. Where did you find a pure locale specimen?

What a clean head pattern and nice yellow sides!

My first guess would be Sulawesi

Second guess Selayar

It is an Ambon retic.
Thanx for the comments.

Really neat specimen, I have never seen an Ambon with a semi-patternless tail coloration like that, but the clean head and slightly broken dorsal pattern definitely give it away. Where did you aquire this specimen? I know Nerd produces pure Ambons. I personally have a trio of pure Thai retics. But I had to ship them all the way from Bangkok, Thailand, where they were produced. It is great to see that there are still a few retic enthusiasts interested in the locale specific specimens. Good luck, make sure to keep us posted.

I will try to find the card for the company I bought it from. You should post some pics of those Thai retics if you can. I am just a beginner as far as retics go and I haven't noticed a lot of the finer differnces between the localties. I decided to get an Ambon because it is so pretty and doesn't get as huge as other loales.
I was deffinately really happy to find a pure captive bred Ambom, especially one as pretty as this. I wish more breeders would try to keep locales more pure since you never know when something is going to damage the trade and make it difficult to come across a pure bred of any certain locale. But that's just my opinion, I personally think most snakes are prettiest the way they ocurr in nature, not that I dissaprove of morphs.
