It's still Monday.....new pics DUW

rainbowsrus Mar 12, 2007 09:07 PM

Was home for lunch today and since Eve shed yesterday, I took her outside for some pics. Not the tamest BRB I've owned by any means. The only reason she has not drawn blood from me is I know she's a bitter. Seems to be OK once out. Getting her out without getting nailed is the hard part. She did nail my sneaker while taking pics. I was a bit worried for pic two, I had picked her up and she wrapped around my hand in such a way as I could not just let her go, had to peal her off. Since she was already wrapped on, time for a cool head shot.

Dave,
Looking at that head shot makes me wonder about how scalation works in identifying subspecies. Check out the number of scales that border Eve's eye (I count nine). Now count the number that border Adam's eye (I get 11). Also, check out the size and shape of the scales behind the eyes on both snakes. Hmmm....

Interesting observation, dunno how variable scale counts are on the heads / around the eyes. Eve was supposedly imported direct from Surinam.

Paul,
...I will try to shoot some head shots of different subspecies in the next few days and post them so you can drive your self crazy counting scales. I am not sure I remember correctly but I think 9 to 11 scales around the eye of a BRB is within the normal range. Both Adam and Eve are probably full BRBs but Adam has a look somewhat like some of my Peruvians and Eve looks more like my Isla Marajos. All three of these subspecies are so similar that they will likely all three be lumped together as one subspecies very soon.
Jeff

Nice! Eve sure is a gorgeous find! You did a great job capturing her iridescence in those photographs.
