After no confirmed copulation yet a thought crossed my mind. Does the male have to have a post brumation shed before her will breed?

Yes. Females and males usually shed within a few weeks of each other (sometimes within a few days of each other). Although it is possible that an unshed male can breed a female, females are more receptive to males that have shed and males that have shed are more enthusiastic about breeding.

These are generalizations though, some snakes, like pines, often breed without any male or female post-hibernation shed.

I've got many males that'll breed before his first shed, many that'll while blue, and a few that won't breed until after the shed. I'd GUESS that most of my males will breed near a shed and after a shed, but not while blue. It really does depend on the shed, though.

How long has it been since the female shed? Sometimes, the female doesn't "smell" right to the male until a few days after her shed. Heck, I just had one that the male didn't show ANY interest in until about 10 days after her shed. He'd breed other females, but not her. BAM - then he was allexcited about her. She just didn't smell right, I guess.

Try every evening for 20-30 minutes until she smells right. That's what we do.
