Strange Eating Habits and Color Changes

LizzardHands Aug 12, 2003 11:12 AM

Ok, to the point. My gecko started out eating canned crickets, a couple weeks ago I gave her live crickets and she liked them, now I'm giving her the rest of the canned crickets and she ate them for the first week but now hasn't touched them for almost 5 days. I'm wondering if this is just a normal eating habit fluctuation, her way of telling me she prefers live crickets, or my biggest concern, she has an impaction. Most of her feces look as though they are composed of sand lately. Is there any way I can tell myself if she has an impaction or can only a vet make that diagnosis? 2nd question is: every couple weeks or so my gecko goes through a day when her color gets very pale only from her neck to the base of her tail. It goes away by the next day and her behavior doesn't change any. Is that normal? 3rd Question, how often is it normal for geckos to shed. I've had mine for about two months or so, I would estimate she was almost 4 weeks to a month old when I got her because she already had spots. Since I've had he she hasn't shed once. Please get back to me as soon as you can. I would appriciate if you could contact me by e-mail so I could get any info you have right away. Pange87@aol.com. Thank you very much.

It surprises me that she ate the canned crickets in the first place and now that she has had a live feeder items she probably will not easily switch back. Although leos can change color her getting pale probably means she is shedding you just havn't seen it. I have had my one female for four years and I always check on her before going to bed but only recently did I finally see her shed. It is done quickly and in order to watch her I had to stay up until 3:00 AM.

Well one ? is do you have sand as it's substrate? If so take it out if it's only about a month old. That's bad reading up and preparing for a gecko if you have sand at such an early age. I will admit it loosk better than paper towels and green repti-carpet but you dont want your gecko dying. Also try mealworms and wax worms. It might help to vary the diet. Well best of luck I hoped I helped

when she gets all pale, that means shes about to shed. leos eat the skin as they shed (quite literally...i got to actually watch my gecko shed a fwe nights ago and they pull the skin off themselves with their mouth and eat it). so your baby has been shedding, you just havent seen it Mine has shed 3 times...the first a few weeks after i got him, a month after that, and another two weeks after that shed. all depends on age and feeding i presume.

as for the thing with the crix, i cant help ya
