cuban tree frogs-no singing?

OKReptileRescue Mar 13, 2007 09:09 PM

Any body have experience with these guys? They've been here about a week- A woman gave them to me- she said she gets shipments of bromeliads (sp?) (the plants) imported to her office- there were 2 in 2 different shipments. I think they're pretty cool but I haven't found much info on them thats of any use to me. They are each in a 10 gal. tank in the bathroom.(where we keep amphibians) (I did see somewhere that they would eat eachother) anyway- They've got a big shallow water bowl that they both soak in at night, they've got each got one of those half log things (small ones), a few fake plants for hiding, a larger branch thats tilted to the corner under the lights. They have a good amount of condensation on the sides of the tanks-
my question is:
Do cuban tree frogs sing (talk, croak, chirp whatever you call it)?
seems to me that after being here this long- they should be talking at night....
anybody with experience to share would be great!

Where in the world did you read that they would eat each other? lol maybe if there was a significant size difference between them...

If you want to keep them together, it would have to be in at least a 20 gallon tank. If not more (the bigger the better). Sounds like you have some nice hiding spots and the water dish is perfect. Change the water every day, even if it doesn't look like it needs to be changed (pee).

As for keeping them in the bathroom, I would say that this was a bad idea. Yeah I know the humidity is nice in there, but the temp changes go from hot to cold in short periods and frequently (depending on how many people take showers) and could lead to breathing issues. They don't really require a high humidity anyways.

I would suggest poking around at http://talkto.thefrog.org
they have some nice caresheets and will be able to answer your questions alot faster than this forum really can.

good luck!

Thanks for the info. I don't know where I read that they would eat each other- just some random website I found. I generally don't keep animals together anyway and cages aren't a big deal. I have had other frogs- mostly just green trees and whites. I know about the toxic- nasty chlorinated water- I don't use tap for any of my animals (except for the dogs). and we drink bottled water. (something about the water being able to kill animals- don't think i need to drink it either).
As for keeping them in the bathroom- we keep them in there b/c thats about the only room that the temp. stays regular. There's only 2 people that take showers here- one that takes a bath and its usually all right in a row at night. We have a big temp gage on the wall in each room- the bathroom is the only one that stays consistant through the day.
I just didn't know if they should be 'talking' yet.... a little patience I suppose..
thank you all!
