Colombian Rainbow Boa, PIC

Jeff Clark Mar 13, 2007 10:49 PM

Colombian Rainbow Boa, Epicrates cenchria maurus. This one is a 19 year old female. This subspecies is different enough that it will likely be reclassified as a seperate species.

What makes them so unique that they will soon be reclassified as a separate species?

Btw VERY nice CRB! I thought you had another for some reason...

Scott,
..I do have a pair of them. I shot head shots but they were not nearly as nice as the ones you posted so I tossed them out. The biggest difference that I see with the maurus is that they have smaller, pointier heads. They also have a smaller gape when stretching to eat a large meal which makes me think they probably have a very different arrangement of bones in their heads. It is kind of subjective but they are stouter and more muscular than the other Rainbow Boas.

...you're making me ponder studying CRBs as a career when I get out of college. That sounds very interesting. Thanks for the info!
