Mine bred without me purposefully doing anything to stimulate them. They began breeding when I, upon a whim, introduced the male into the female's cage, and then continued to breed for a month or so as I'd take him out and put him back in. She laid eggs sometime around a month or so after the last noticed copulation. She wasn't very big (~3.5') and her clutch was small at only 5 good eggs. So, in answer to your question: no, they don't absolutely need a particular form of cycling to induce them into breeding. However, with ophiophagic snakes, it's always a good idea to try your best to make sure they're in the mood to mate rather than eat.
